2-Day Ol Doinyo Lengai Hiking Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha – Lake Natron – Lodge Check-In – Waterfalls Visit – Night Climb

Your Ol Doinyo Lengai adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Arusha. You will depart with packed lunch boxes and travel through the dramatic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, passing traditional Maasai villages, volcanic terrain, and wide-open savannah plains.

After approximately 5–6 hours of scenic driving, you will arrive in the Lake Natron / Ol Doinyo Lengai area.

Lodge Check-In

Upon arrival, check in at Maasai Giraffe Lodge and drop off your luggage before beginning the afternoon activities.

Afternoon Activities

Visit Ngare Sero Waterfalls
Take a guided walk through a beautiful canyon to reach the Ngare Sero Waterfalls, a hidden oasis where you can swim in cool natural pools and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Explore Lake Natron
Later, visit Lake Natron, famous for its dramatic red waters and large flocks of lesser flamingos. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and a beautiful sunset over the alkaline lake.

Evening – Preparation for the Night Climb

Return to Maasai Giraffe Lodge for an early dinner and some rest before your climb.

Around 11:00 PM, meet your professional mountain guide and begin the challenging night ascent of Ol Doinyo Lengai. Hiking at night allows you to reach the summit in time to witness one of the most spectacular sunrises in Tanzania.

Day 2: Summit – Descent – Lunch – Return to Arusha

After several hours of climbing, you will reach the summit of Ol Doinyo Lengai in the early morning.

From the top, enjoy an incredible sunrise over Lake Natron and the Great Rift Valley, with panoramic views stretching across northern Tanzania and even into Kenya.

After spending time at the summit, begin the descent back to the base, arriving at Maasai Giraffe Lodge by late morning.

Lunch and Relaxation

Return to Arusha

In the late afternoon, depart Lake Natron and drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening with unforgettable memories of your Ol Doinyo Lengai hiking safari.
